Thanks Dean Wong for sharing his experiences about SLIC-2010 which was held in Kota Tinggi Rainforest Resort, Malaysia from 22nd September to 25th September 2010.

“Over the recent recess week, I participated in the Student Leaders’ Induction Camp (SLIC) organised by OSA. It began at the Students’ Recreation Centre where I was introduced to my group mates, facilitators and organisers before embarking for the Kota Tinggi Resort by bus. While most of us were still unfamiliar with one another, the facilitators warmed us up with their liveliness. I remember student facilitator Chu Tak teasing just as we left the campus by calling us ‘Pink’ to differentiate our group’s colour code (Turquoise) from the ‘Blue’ group, much to our dismay. Immediately, student facilitator Nishat shot back, “Rubbish!” which invited a round of laughter and the mood was lifted. At the resort, besides the lessons on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective College Students and OSA guidelines, there were also games to reinforce the concepts. I recall my group catching on our facilitators’ enthusiasm during the outdoor games in breaking other groups’ records from one obstacle course to the next. In the process, my group had become highly motivated and bonded very well. I also recall Chu Tak patiently teaching us how to tie a complex knot while Nishat looked out for our safety during the raft building competition. They gave their full support till the end even as our raft failed, which encouraged us very much. In addition, they would always join us over lunch and dinner for chats that were usually spiced with humour and learning points. The facilitators had not only saw us through the camp successfully but also created a very memorable and fruitful experience. I am very grateful that they had brought SLIC to live.
