To Science Students Bidding for Electives:

Science students who are able to see non-Science elective modules of their interest (e.g. EC1301) available for bidding in the early bidding rounds under the ‘Regular modules category’ should proceed to bid for it. The account type, module type code (e.g. 05, 07, 27, etc), modules category and bidding round will not affect how it will be used towards fulfilling your graduation requirements.

However, please note that the module code (different from the module type code) will affect how a module can be used to satisfy graduation requirements. For example, for cross-listed modules such as PC1322/GEK1520, if you bid under the PC code, it cannot be used to fulfill your GEM requirements. Thus, do ensure that when bidding for a module, you choose the code based on the requirements you intend to satisfy.

28 Honours Module For Students Not in Honours Year

(B) Important Things to Note:

(1)   Our department is unable to interfere with the bidding process to admit students.  If a module is fully subscribed, students should continue to monitor the bidding queues constantly and place bids should vacancies arise.

(2)   Students should bid for modules which are still under-subscribed instead of appealing for those modules which are fully subscribed.

(3)   Students who are supposed to be in a particular year of study but whose student status shows that they are one year behind may not be able to select certain modules for bidding.  For example, a student in his third year of study but whose status shows ARS2 will not be able to access those modules that are open only to ARS3 students.  In such instances, students who wish to do one or more of those modules could appeal via CORS and indicate the module(s) that they would like to select.  Up to 5 modules could be listed.

(4)   All appeals should be sent through CORS.

(5)   FASS undergraduates may be allowed, in lieu of their level-4000 modules, a maximum of 2 level-5000 modules (subject to department’s approval and module pre-requisites, if any), to fulfil graduation requirements.  No level-5000 ISMs or level-6000 modules (including ISMs) will be opened to undergraduates.  This limit will be imposed from Semester 1, AY2008-09 onwards to all students (regardless of cohorts).  Students who have read more than 2 level-5000 modules prior to Semester 1, AY2008-09 will be allowed to use the excess level-5000 modules read to fulfil their graduation requirements.

For this coming round of CORS, Semester 2, AY2008-09, students who wish to read level-5000 modules should approach the department to register for the modules and not bid via CORS.

(6)   The department has decided to exempt students who have taken SC2203 during and before AY2006-07 and who have decided to major in Psychology from taking PL3235.  Such students have to take another module in replacement of PL3235 to fulfil the subject major requirements of Psychology.  SC2203 will then be treated as an Unrestricted Elective.  Affected students have to write to (psybox1@nus.edu.sg) to inform the department so that their records could be updated accordingly and there would not be any problems when the students file for graduation.

Change in Workload Policy for First Two Bidding Rounds

To ensure fairness in bidding across all Faculties, a workload policy is in place in the first two rounds of bidding so that all students, regardless of which Faculty they are from, are given an equal chance in securing their choice modules during these rounds.

Currently, the workload policy is set at a cap of a modular count of 5 modules. With effect from AY2008/09 Semester 2 onwards, the cap of a modular count of 5 modules will be removed. In place, the workload policy is changed to cap at 23 MCs instead.

From Round 3 onwards, students can continue to bid for additional modules under the maximum workload policy as set by their individual Faculty. Students are strongly advised to seek approval from their respective Faculty if they wish to exceed the maximum workload allowed.

Here’s an example to illustrate this:
Assuming you have bid for 5 modules in the first 2 rounds, 4 of them are 4MCs modules, 1 is a 5MCs module.
-> Total workload = 21 MCs, which is still within the cap of 23 MCs for the first two rounds of bidding.

If your Faculty has configured the maximum workload policy as 25 MCs, you will be allowed to bid for a 6th module in Round 3.
Therefore, total workload = 25 MCs.
